Engaged employees are key to becoming one of Baton Rouge’s best places to work

Want to become one of the best workplaces in Baton Rouge? Then make sure your workers feel valued—it’s the top driver of employee engagement, Best Companies Group President Peter Burke said during his keynote address at Business Report’s Best Places to Work Breakfast, an annual event honoring dozens of companies in the Capital Region.

Employee engagement means employees look forward to going to work every day, are willing to go the extra mile for their employer and find purpose and meaning in their job, Burke said.

So how do you foster those kinds of employees? Burke said listening to them and genuinely caring about their opinions is vital.

“The worst thing you can do is launch a survey and do nothing with the information,” he said, adding that regularly soliciting feedback is important.

Engaged employees also have confidence in the leadership of their organization, they like their work and feel as if they’re treated like a person rather than a number.
